It feels like an early spring: rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection, and regrowth… so like every year, I’ve gone against all sound advice, and moved the plants from the greenhouse, out into the garden.
at this early stage, i’m still optimistic about my gardening ability, but don’t worry, this feeling is sure to go away by the end of May.
In Veneto, for every initiative that has to do with plants or the weather, there’s a proverb in dialect, which will warn you against it. “don’t plant on a full moon..”, “don’t trust the storms that arrive from the neighbors’ direction (that would be the scary and dangerous “cat- eating” neighbors, to the east) and while we’re at it..don’t trust the neighbors either!Don’t worry, This feeling will dwindle away by May.
I was warned and scolded and branded as the ignorant foreigner, but seriously… take a look outside – it’s springing everywhere (yes, Claudia, I made that up).
The garden instantly looks great and I feel positive and warm and happy.
The lesson this week will defiantly have to do with spring, about facts and misconceptions (like the egg balancing on the equinox issue) and new words, but also about the difference in the attitude towards spring that children have as appose to adults. I’m also going to slip in some spring poetry under the radar. My groups are definitely ready ready, and I’m going to take advantage of this year’s huge, wonderful female majority in all the courses (my girls rock!) and get a little mushy.
